Of all the things to do in Asheville, NC, most of the best activities have to do with being outdoors. You might enjoy strolling through a local park or botanical garden, soaking up the sunshine at a nearby lake, or simply wandering the streets of downtown to explore the local shopping, as well as abundant restaurants and breweries in Asheville.
But if you’ve got a sports fan in your group, don’t miss your chance to experience some Asheville Tourists baseball!
This is easily one of the favorite activities for guests in our Asheville cabin rentals, so carve out some time in your itinerary to experience it for yourself.

History of the Asheville Tourists
While professional baseball in Asheville dates back to 1897, the Tourists as we know them today weren’t formed until 1915. Operations were suspended during World War I and World War II, and after each war, the team was temporarily renamed. They brought back the Tourists name for good in 1946. Although there was an attempt to rename the team in 1959, fans voted overwhelmingly to keep the original name. After that, the Tourists brought in two league titles and eventually became affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles. Most recently, the team won league titles in 2012 and 2014.
When to Catch a Game
If you want to come and experience a Tourists game for yourself, some times of the year are better than others. Typically, the Tourists begin their season in April and continue their games through September. They’ll play at home for multiple days in a row, so there’s a good chance you’ll be able to catch a game while you’re in town. Sometimes, they even hold special promotional nights such as Thirsty Thursdays, Dollar Dog Fridays, and various giveaway nights throughout the week. To see the entire schedule for 2022, visit the Tourists’ website and view the Schedule page.

Ticket Pricing

If you’d like a premium box seat, which puts you even closer to the field, you’ll pay $15 per person. McCormick Field
The Tourists have played at McCormick Field for decades now, and fans still love this facility. It’s pretty easy to navigate and makes it simple to grab some concessions or check out the souvenirs. General admission seating is located in the two sections nearest the first base and the three sections nearest the third base. The nine sections in the middle are the reserves. You’ll also find some fun party areas outside both general admissions sections.
