Embark on a formidable challenge that commences at the break of dawn in Black Mountain, the charming “front porch of Western North Carolina.” Traverse scenic trails leading to the pinnacle of Western North Carolina, Mount Mitchell’s 6,684′ summit—the loftiest point in eastern America—and then return to the origin. With an initial altitude of 2,360′, participants face a staggering elevation gain of 4,324′ within the first 20 miles of this 40-mile run!

Downtown Black Mountain’s Sourwood Festival is a lively homage to our bees and locally-produced sourwood honey, proudly orchestrated by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Stroll through streets adorned with 200 vendors, savor festival delights, and relish a diverse array of live music. While the festival unfolds on side streets, Main Street remains open, inviting exploration of galleries, restaurants, and stores that contribute to our distinctive charm.
