Anyone who knows anything about Asheville knows that you’ll find some of the best breweries in South Slope. While there are dozens to choose from, you’ll want to add at least one of these to your list of breweries in Asheville to visit.

Burial

Burial isn’t your average brewery. Opening in 2013, Burial has quickly become one of the most popular breweries for locals and visitors. The atmosphere at this brewery is welcoming, and even if you’re not a huge beer drinker, you’ll have a great time trying other menu items and hanging out with whoever you’re traveling with.

This Asheville hotspot has two bars, one indoors and one outdoors plus much more than just their craft beer on the menu. This relaxed brewery has a full kitchen so you can enjoy a great meal while you sample their beer or their famous wine slushies. Getting a flight to sample a few of their beers is the best idea.

Twin Leaf

For those who enjoy drinking English, Belgian, and American-style ales, Twin Leaf might be your new favorite brewery. The menu is filled to the brim with IPAs, American lagers, sours, and other delicious creations that are waiting for you to try them.

The tap menu here is pretty large, so we recommend asking your bartender what they recommend based on what you like. Their 144 Juicy Fruit is one of their most popular. Twin Leaf commits to sustainability and is dedicated to reducing its footprint. So, not only will you have a great beer while you’re here, but you can feel good about supporting a great local business.

Archetype

Archetype is a unique brewery in South Slope that strives to push the boundaries compared to traditional brewing. The owners of the brewery opened it to create delicious and creative craft beers while providing a comfortable and welcoming spot for the community.

When you visit Archetype, they have their core beers on tap, which are some you have to try because they’re classics. But, they also have a selection of seasonal and small-batch brews depending on when you visit the brewery.

The variety of beer here is vast, with hoppy IPAs, lagers, barrel-aged beers, and more. We highly recommend their Liminal Being, which is a Belgian pale ale.

Green Man

One of the best breweries that is also one of the best South Slope restaurants is Green Man. Green Man has been in Asheville since 1997 and is a staple in the community. Not only are they serving some exciting craft beer, but they also have scratch-made pub food for you to enjoy while you sample their beers.

The beer menu at Green Man changes depending on availability. They have plenty of year-round beers for you to try, but taproom-exclusive beers should be high on your list since you can’t get them anywhere else. The staff here are passionate about the beer they create and love to share the brewery’s history and part of their process with patrons.

Catawba

For those traveling with their furry friend, Catawba is a family and dog-friendly brewery in South Slope. Known as Asheville’s “most approachable brewery,” anyone and everyone is welcome here, regardless of age. They have a great outdoor area that is popular for families and when the weather’s nice and a spacious indoor area.

Catawba’s beer list features a little something for everyone. They have a great Pilsner called Endless Trail, Hazy IPAs like Carolina Fog, and more. You don’t see a lot of white ales on many brewery menus, but Catawba has several great white ales for you to try like their White Zombie and Blackberry Zombie beers.

Funkatorium

One of the most fun things to do in Asheville is to visit Wicked Weed’s Funkatorium. The Funkatorium is a space from the famous Wicked Weed Brewery in South Slope. This stunning space features great murals, greenery, and plenty of space to gather with friends and loved ones.

The Funkatorium has an extensive food menu that you can browse from while you sample their beers. The food menu features all your favorite bar food, but elevated and Southern dishes like pimento cheese and whoopie pies. As for the beer, this is the place you go for Sour beer since they have more than 20 on tap.

Antidote is one of the best bars in South Slope, especially when you’re looking for impressive cocktails. The bartenders here are more like chemists, developing and making some of the most unique cocktails you’ll find in the city.

Asheville Sports Club

Asheville Sports Club is a fun bar where you can grab drinks and play games like pickleball, dodgeball, or basketball. This spot has a little bit of everything. It’s a coffee shop and bar combined into one.
