After cooler and more unsettled weather earlier in the week, Friday begins a stretch of pleasant fall weather with daytime highs in the low-to-mid 70s, noticeably cooler nights, and plenty of sunshine as we move through the weekend.

Outlook: Friday brings a distinctly different feel to the mountains, with cooler temperatures and mostly cloudy skies giving Asheville its first real taste of fall. Temperatures should reach only the low 70s during the afternoon before dropping considerably after sunset. It should be an excellent day for hiking, exploring downtown Asheville, visiting local breweries, or taking a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Weather Underground currently shows only about a 10% chance of rain.

High: ~74–75°F | Low: ~42–48°F | Chance of precipitation: <10%

Outlook: Saturday looks like the standout day of the weekend, with abundant sunshine, comfortable afternoon temperatures, and very little chance of rain. The cool morning will be ideal for hiking, waterfall adventures, and exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway before temperatures warm into the mid-70s. With fall officially underway, this is also a great time to begin looking for the earliest seasonal color at the highest elevations. Weather Underground’s current forecast shows clear to mostly clear conditions and very low rain chances.

Outlook: Sunday continues the beautiful early-fall pattern with plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. With cooler air settling into the mountains, a light jacket or extra layer will feel good during the morning and again after sunset.

After clouds, showers, and thunderstorms earlier in the week, conditions improve considerably heading into the weekend. Friday should be mostly dry, while Saturday and Sunday currently offer plenty of sunshine and little threat of rain.

We’re still well ahead of peak fall color around Asheville, but the seasonal transition is beginning. The first noticeable changes traditionally occur at the highest elevations before gradually working their way down the mountains during October.
