There’s a fresh new way to experience the Blue Ridge Mountains—car-free, paved, and tailor-made for adventurers, families, and weekend wanderers alike. Welcome to the Ecusta Trail, a newly developed rail-to-trail greenway that’s quickly becoming one of Western North Carolina’s most exciting attractions. And now, Yonder guests can enjoy 10% off e-bike rentals through our friends at Venture Ecusta—making it easier than ever to cruise this scenic route in style.
With 6 of the first 7 miles now open, the trail stretches from downtown Hendersonville to Horse Shoe, with 13 more miles on the way to complete the connection to Brevard by late 2027. Smooth, wide, and designed for all ages and abilities, the Ecusta Trail is more than a path—it’s a movement.
What Is the Ecusta Trail?
The Ecusta Trail is a 19-mile paved greenway built along a former rail line that once served the historic Ecusta Paper Mill. This rail corridor is now being transformed into a vibrant, multi-use trail for cyclists, runners, walkers, and families. We got a chance to enjoy the completed 6 miles recently and had an absolutely fantastic time.
When fully completed, the trail will span from downtown Hendersonville to downtown Brevard, connecting communities, businesses, breweries, cafes, and outdoor lovers across the Blue Ridge region.
What Does “Ecusta” Mean?
The word “Ecusta” comes from the Cherokee language, often translated to mean “rippling waters” or “place of origin.” It’s a fitting name for a trail that flows through the heart of Western North Carolina—offering moments of peace, connection, and discovery at every turn.
