Hatley Pointe: A Winter Wonderland Transformed

Ski Lodge

Hatley Pointe, a boutique mountain resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, is more than just a ski resort—it’s a destination. On a recent visit, we were utterly captivated by the stunning transformation of this once-rustic ski area into a modern, sophisticated, and incredibly inviting winter wonderland.

A Scenic Journey:

Our journey from Asheville was a scenic delight and only took 45 minutes. The crisp mountain air and glimpses of snow-dusted landscapes heightened our anticipation as we approached Hatley Pointe. The drive itself was a pleasure, thanks to well-maintained roads that effortlessly navigated the winter conditions.

First Impressions: A Modern Marvel

Arriving at Hatley Pointe, we were immediately struck by the modern architecture of the lodge. Gone were the days of the old, weathered buildings. In their place stood a sleek, contemporary structure that exuded sophistication. The covered outdoor kiosks for purchasing ski passes added a touch of convenience and streamlined the entry process.

Inside the Lodge: A World of Comfort

Stepping inside the lodge was like entering another world. The interior was spacious, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. Comfortable seating arrangements, complete with cozy fireplaces, invited us to relax and soak in the ambiance. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, filled with the chatter of families, couples, and groups of friends enjoying their time.

Exemplary Service:

The level of service at Hatley Pointe was exceptional. From the warm greetings of the staff to the attention to detail – like the heated phone booths and the thoughtful provision of reading glasses – it was clear that guest comfort was paramount. We had the pleasure of meeting Sarah, a marketing specialist, who provided us with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour of the lodge. Her passion for Hatley Pointe was contagious.

Dining Delights:

Our culinary journey at Hatley Pointe was equally impressive. The lodge boasts a variety of dining options, from the inviting Terrace & Bistro Lounge to the upscale restaurant that could rival any fine-dining establishment in Asheville. We opted for a delicious pizza from Peaks and Pies, a food truck conveniently located outside, and enjoyed it while taking in the breathtaking views of the slopes.
Pro-Tip: We highly recommend the signature hot chocolate drink from Steeps!

A Glimpse into the Past:

We had the fortunate opportunity to meet Johnny, a former ski instructor at the original Wolf Laurel resort. His stories of the resort’s history, all told with a warm smile, provided a fascinating glimpse into its past. Johnny, who recently celebrated his wedding at the lodge (the first to be held at the transformed venue!), epitomized the friendly and welcoming spirit of Hatley Pointe.

Beyond Skiing: A Year-Round Destination

While skiing and snowboarding are undoubtedly the main draws, Hatley Pointe is in the process of establishing itself as a year-round destination. The stunning mountain scenery, coupled with the luxurious accommodations and exceptional dining options, make it an ideal retreat for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful escape. Plans for world-class mountain biking trails are already underway.
